Like instant food, it is instant Google. Made for the swift in mind, it is the latest, the most brilliant and the much talked about. It is search at rocket speed. It is search with Google Instant.

The latest buzz among people of the world wide web is Google Instant. Google has dominated the minds and hearts of internet users for years. And it has proved itself again by Google Instant.

What is Google Instant? Google Instant is Google’s instant search feature which acts as a tool to help users find information in the quickest way possible. It displays results even before you can type. Yes, in a way, it is hyper-suggestive. Results appear as you type, for every letter you type. This immediate feedback helps us refine our search and find what we require instantly. As a result, we save our time and explore relevant search results.

How it works: The concept of Google Instant is somewhat similar to Google Suggest – when you start typing your keyword in the search box, Google Instant automatically displays the results for a popular search of that letter/word you type. That is, before you finish typing and press enter, you can see the relevant web pages in your search results.

Google’s algorithm tries to predict the rest of the query which might be based on frequent or a popular search used by millions of its users. These predicted terms are highlighted in light Grey color in the search box and search results are shown automatically for that predicted query.

With Google Instant, Google Search is faster than ever after. It allows internet users find the relevant search within 10-15 seconds. But this service is available only to the users who are logged into Google. The Google Instant has taken Google Search to the next level.

Why Google Instant?

It’s instant: Google Instant predicts your search and shows results even before you can finish typing and that saves 2-5 seconds per search.

It’s smart: Google Instant predicts what you look for even if you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for. And these smart predictions guide your search. The topmost prediction are highlighted in Grey color.

You can scroll to search: With the help of down arrow key you can scroll through every suggestion offered, while the results page automatically updates as you keep moving along.

Google Instant shows that Google is very particular reigning the web search space. With Google Instant, the search giant is now way ahead of its competitors!

Microsoft has introduced a new framework model termed as ADO.NET Entity Framework for Data Access Layers based on ORM (Object Relational Mapping) model in which each and every table in the database is treated as a separate entity and the relationship between these entities are defined in a separate XML mapping file (Entity Data Model). By this, it has now become possible to represent a relational model as a conceptual data model that includes types with inheritance and relationship. This is yet another conceptual revolution towards abstract programming model by which we can maintain a language-independent entity model.

Developers can now create their business applications by just writing the business logic in terms of the conceptual domain model described via object relational mapping irrespective of the logical schema of the underlying data store.

In an Entity Data Model (EDM), the entities correspond to the table in the data store that maintains the persistence of the data. Say an employee table whose Entity Type would be of Employee Class, with the properties set to the fields in the employee table, and the instance of the Entity Type matching with the corresponding tuples in the table. These entity types can be related to each other independent of the physical scheme of the data store. If the underlying data store makes any changes in its scheme, vis-a-vis, the changes can be implemented in the application only by changing the XML mapping file without affecting our business logic code layer.

It is noteworthy that ADO.NET Entity Framework uses a variant of SQL termed as Entity SQL which is aimed at writing queries to the data store at the more conceptual level in terms of the Entity Types created on the application front. ADO.NET Entity Framework takes care the problem of translating the entity SQL command tree into native SQL query of the corresponding database. Even though, in future, the data store schema or its location be changed the changes can be configured in the EDM XML file without affecting our application-specific business logic.
Resolved: Visual Rendering Defects in Flex Data Controls

Databinding remains a core feature in Flex visual components if we would like to render our data in Grid or List based control. We can even bind our custom components as Item Renderer for the Grid or List for binding dynamic data. The custom component would consist of just dynamic image or text or even a combination of both.

Issue: The main problem we faced on custom component item renderer is the misbehavior of the List and Grid controls. The custom items do not render or refresh upon scrolling of the container. If the application is minimized and maximized, the display object gets out of scope. Sometimes, the width and height of those inner custom components are not properly fit in and overlap with each other especially in case of TileList controls.
Reason: Each and every component in Flex has a property called UID (Unique Identifier) that is used to assign an unique identifier for each instance of the component. The Flex Data Controls identify its child elements based on its UID. For non-custom item renderers, these Data Controls itself assign the UID value so the above-said problem does not happen. But this is not the case with custom component.

Work-Around Provided:
In order to overcome this situation, we need to do the following:

Implement the interface IUID that belongs to mx.core package in our custom AS3 component that we would like to render inside those data controls.

Make the renderer class Bindable.

Just override the set and get methods of the UID property of IUID interface.

Code Snippet:

package com
{
import mx.containers.Canvas;
import mx.core.IUID;

[Bindable]
public class MyItemHolder extends Canvas implements IUID
{

/* uid variable declaration */
private var _uid:String;

/* your other variable declaration goes here */

/* overriding set and get method of IUID interface */
public override function get uid():String
{
return _uid;
}

public override function set uid(value:String):void
{
this._uid=value;
}
/* rest of the functionalities */
}

Google Analytics helps you monitor, track and analyze your online marketing campaigns such as paid search campaigns (PPC), banner ads, email marketing and other online programs. Here, I have detailed on the tracking of paid campaigns.

How to track your Paid campaigns:

There are two ways to track your paid campaigns (PPC)

1. Auto-tagging:
For Google Adwords: Go to My Account >> Account Preferences and enable auto-tagging.
This lets Google Analytics to automatically produce reports with clicks, costs, conversions and other
information for every given keyword.

This can be done by linking your Adwords accounts and Google Analytics account.

When you do this for the first time, you will be suggested to automatically select destination URL autotagging and Cost Data Import.

2. Manual Tagging: The second method to track your PPC campaign is through Manual tagging.

To do Manual tagging, you need to build your landing page URL with manually tagged campaign variables which should be added to the end of your URLs. Manual tagging will help you to track your paid listings in Google, Yahoo, Adcenter, Facebook, Linkedin, Email campaigns etc.

Linking Adwords to Analytics:

Linking your Google AdWords account to Google Analytics, you would probably get advanced analytics reports. These reports will evaluate Return on Investment (ROI) for your AdWords campaigns. Link your Adwords account with Analytics which is placed on top of your Adwords account.

Purpose of Auto-tagging:

Auto-tagging your links is important since Analytics reports differentiate your Google sponsored listings from organic results traffic.
If you have not enabled auto-tagging, then Analytics would consider both your sponsored and organic results as coming from the same source and label them under Google organic results. Auto-tagging would work by adding unique id, or g-c-l-i-d, at the end of your landing page URLs which allow Analytics to track and display click and cost data in your reports.

Manual URL Tagging:

Five variables are there when tagging URLs manually. Each variable is separated by an ampersand. Let’s have a look on each variable. URL builder helps you tag your landing page URLs in order to separate your paid listing traffic from other organic results.

Variable1: utm_source — To identify the specific website (Search engine)

Variable2: utm_medium — To identify a medium for example, CPC for Cost Per Click

Variable3: utm_term — To identify the keywords

Variable4: utm_content — Differentiate ads or links that point to the same URL

Variable5: utm_campaign — To identify the name of the campaign

Example: http://www.example.com/car.html?utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=car&utm_content=textlink&utm_campaign=car_sale

Data Discrepancies:

There are several reasons owing to which you may perceive differences between visits and clicks data in your Google Analytics and AdWords reports. Some of them are:

1. Initially, AdWords tracks clicks while Analytics tracks visits. Some visitors who click on your AdWords ads might have enabled JavaScript or cookies. For such users, Analytics will not report the visits, but AdWords will report the clicks.

2. If the Google Analytics code is not correctly inserted in all web pages, AdWords will track clicks but Analytics will not track visits.

3. You may also notice the differences due to invalid clicks. Though Google AdWords automatically filters an invalid click from your report center, Google Analytics will still record the visits.

Corporate giants may cringe at the thought of recession, but not Dot Com Infoway. When the world around is caught up in a frantic recession-phobia, Dot Com Infoway has clinched 2 large contracts from an Australian company recently.

Impressed by the Dot Com Infoway’s industry intelligence and client-friendly business approach, an Australian client – located in Gold Coast, Queensland – has signed two big-budgeted projects with the company. The two projects, one in Web Programming and another in SEO copywriting, come in the wake of the company’s plans to combat recession by aggressively taking forward its cross-continent expansion agenda. Since these are long term contracts, Dot Com Infoway will allocate dedicated, high-caliber resources to work on the projects.

With these two big contracts, Dot Com Infoway has once again proved its mettle as a resourceful and upbeat IT company. Instead of reclining into the recession mode, the company is combating economic blues with the right gusto to clinch bigger deals and establish longterm business partnerships.

Dot Com Infoway conducted a campus drive program at Fatima College, one of Madurai’s reputed institutions, recently. Given the company’s penchant for young and fresh talent, the recruitment drive was a huge success, marked by the participation of about 150 students. The company’s Human Resources team made the resource-pooling process innovative and interesting by conducting aptitude tests, group discussions and one-to-one interactions. The candidates were measured based on their interest in IT, communication skills and academic background. Out of the 150 participants, 75 were shortlisted and finally, 7 were recruited. The new recruits, all of them with good academic standing and communication skills, would be joining the company’s Madurai office soon.

Pooling-in fresh talent has always been Dot Com Infoway’s way of managing resources and staying in the upbeat mode. This recruitment drive comes in the wake of the global economic crisis when many companies are aiming at cutting costs and shrinking resources. Dot Com Infoway has indeed taken a bold step in combating recession by pushing forward its expansion agenda and recruiting young talent.
