Facebook India is Down
Facebook India is down from the wee hours of March 13th, 2012. Today, when many people tried to log into the social networking site, they encountered the following problem:
Previously, the same kind of problem occurred on February 25th, 2012 but that lasted for less than an hour. Today, Facebook has been down for many hours and the site is not responding. The last time this happened, the login page and the extra applications worked fine. But today, everything is unresponsive.
The problem is likely a DNS issue. Domain Name System (DNS) is the network service that translates an Internet domain name i.e., website’s name to its corresponding Internet protocol address. The error may have been caused due to an unresponsive DNS server.
However, Facebook addicts can heave a sigh of relief as the mobile version of Facebook works perfectly well. It can be accessed through http://m.facebook.com.
A few days ago, when Facebook was down in Europe, the officials announced that it was due to some technical difficulties. But some websites reported that the interruption may be due to a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack by hackers. But in India, the problem persists since morning and the exact reason has not yet been confirmed.
A point to be noted at this moment is that, the Indian government has put Facebook and other 11 Internet companies on trial for not removing the content that is considered offensive to the Indian sentiments. This could also be a possible reason for the inaccessibilty of the site.
Recent update:
Facebook has started working now and the exact reason behind the interruption is still unknown.
