Few days back, there were reports about ‘Delicious’, stating that it was going to get shut down. But now Yahoo comes with clarifications in its blog, that Delicious is looking for an “ideal home…outside the company”.

Delicious, a renowned social bookmarking web service, was started in 2003 and was acquired by Yahoo in 2005. At that time, Delicious was one of the first Web 2.0 companies. After the deal, Delicious failed to meet the competing bookmarking services effectively.

While reacting to the reports about the “sunsetting” of Delicious, Yahoo said, “there’s no reason to panic” as “we are not shutting down Delicious”. As no other options available, Yahoo has now decided to go shopping for Delicious to find a home outside Yahoo. But experts wondered who would want to buy the none-too-profitable site.

Hard times continue for Yahoo, as it has laid off 4 percent of employees recently. Over 600 employees suffered from this move. It was the third round of layoff at Yahoo since late 2008. Apart from Delicious, Yahoo has also planned to shut down several of its web properties including Alta Vista, Yahoo Buzz and My Blog Log.

However the company encouraged Delicious users to keep using it, while promising that the service would be maintained. But experts suggest users to export the links and tags from the site, to other services.
