Facebook may soon Launch a New App for Tracking FriendsDCI
Facebook is reportedly developing a smartphone app that will help people track the location of individuals.
According to a Bloomberg report, the app launch is scheduled for next month. The app is designed to help people find friends who are nearby. Facebook is integrating many new features to profit from the 1 billion users who access Facebook through mobile devices.
“A lot of what we had to do last year was simply to improve our mobile development process,” said Mark Zuckerberg, the chief executive of Facebook in a meeting with analysts. “The next thing we’re going to do is get really good at building new mobile-first experiences, ” he added.
The app is reported to be competing with Apple’s Find My Friends service, and many others like Highlight, Banjo, and Foursquare. Though the app seems to be similar to Apple’s Find My Friends service, Facebook could make things more interesting. Apple’s Find My Friends service allows iPhone users to locate their friends via the device’s Contacts and Maps program, whereas Facebook has got a wider reach as users are likely to have more number of people as Facebook friends.
This tracking app could allow Facebook to sell ads based on people’s location and daily habits.
