World Vision India – Website Development Case Study

Project Overview

World Vision India undertook a website modernization initiative to improve website performance, strengthen security, streamline campaign navigation, and enhance the donor experience. The project focused on modernizing key web components and supporting infrastructure while maintaining existing donation and payment workflows.

The modernization covered server-side rendering, campaign integrations, AWS test environment hardening, security remediation, and functional improvements across donor-facing portal features.

The Challenge

Website Performance: Address page-loading bottlenecks and improve rendering performance across key pages to deliver a faster user experience.

Security Vulnerabilities: Remediate moderate-severity vulnerabilities identified through the organization’s global security audit and strengthen the test environment.

Campaign and Donation Workflows: Support dynamic campaign banners, motivation codes, and gift catalogue navigation without disrupting existing payment flows.

Donor Portal Functionality: Resolve issues affecting multi-child profiles, including duplicate progress report downloads and tab focus resets when switching between profiles.

Technologies Used

  • Frontend and Rendering: Next.js and Node.js, including server-side rendering where implemented.
  • Backend and APIs: Setting Value APIs and campaign-specific endpoints for dynamic campaign content and motivation codes.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: AWS test environment provisioning and server hardening.
  • Security and Quality Assurance: VAPT remediation, user acceptance testing, and release validation.
  • Project Coordination: Basecamp for tracking development tasks, deployments, testing, and release activities.

Solutions

Rendering and Performance Optimization: Implemented server-side rendering across selected pages to improve content delivery and support search engine accessibility. Performance improvements should be reported using verified test results.

Campaign and Donation Navigation: Integrated festive campaign banners into the My World donor portal, connecting donors to relevant gift catalogue sections and payment workflows.

Infrastructure Provisioning and Hardening: Set up an isolated AWS test environment to support release validation and remediation of security audit findings.

Dynamic Campaign Configuration: Integrated backend API configurations for financial-year-specific motivation codes associated with campaigns such as Shiksha for Children, Childhood Rescue, and Women Empowerment.

Functional Bug Fixes: Addressed reported issues in multi-child profile views, including duplicate progress report downloads and tab focus behavior during profile switching.

Business Impact

The modernization work addressed technical, security, and functional issues affecting the donor-facing experience while providing a more maintainable foundation for campaign updates and ongoing website improvements.

Where available, include verified performance measurements, security retest results, and deployment records to quantify the impact.

Results

Modernized Web Infrastructure: Implemented SSR and supporting infrastructure changes for the agreed modernization scope.

Security Remediation: Addressed identified moderate-severity VAPT findings, subject to confirmation through security retesting.

Improved Donor Workflows: Updated campaign navigation and gift catalogue access to support smoother donor interactions.

Validated Functional Updates: Completed testing and release validation for applicable modules, including PNSF webpages, nationality updates, and multi-child profile fixes. Specify which changes reached production and which remained in UAT.
