Google punished its own Chrome download page after complaints about Pay-for-Post promo.
A couple of days back, search marketing blogs reported about the sponsored blog posts that identified Google as the post sponsor. Now, Google has come out with the clarification that states that have taken manual action to demote Chrome page to lower its Page Rank for at least 60 days. Therefore, users won’t see Chrome home page in results for a search using the keyword “browser”.
“While Google did not authorize this campaign, and we can find no remaining violations of our webmaster guidelines, we believe Google should be held to a higher standard, so we have taken stricter action than we would against a typical site,” said Google. “We’ve investigated and are taking manual action to demote www.google.com/chrome and lower the site’s PageRank for a period of at least 60 days.”
However, Chrome download page still ranks high for the keywords such us “Google Chrome” or “Chrome”.
