Microsoft confirmed the launch of a dedicated app store for its new OS Windows 8.

During the BUILD developer conference, Microsoft announced that the company is going to launch its own app store which would be the only place for the users to get apps designed for the Metro UI in Windows 8.

Microsoft may be a bit late to enter this area when compared to Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android. However, it has an advantage as the platform has been designed for both personal computers and tablet devices. According to Ted Dworkin, lead director for the Windows Store development team, security is the main reason behind this decision of Microsoft. He said, “We will examine every application that will be submitted to us, we will run a virus check and a malware check on every application.”

Like its competitor Apple, Microsoft has decided to take 30 percent of developers’ earnings from the sale of apps.
