Paul Buchheit, the man behind the Adsense and Gmail, predicts that Google will kill Chrome OS or merge it with Android in 2011
When Google first announced Chrome OS, experts predicted that it could grab a huge market share from Windows. But things has got changed now as Paul Buchheit said on Twitter that, “Prediction: ChromeOS will be killed next year (or merged with Android).
The former Google employee and Friendfeed wrote, “ChromeOS has no purpose that isn’t better served by Android (perhaps with a few mods to support a non-touch display). I was thinking, ‘is this too obvious to even state?’, but then I see people taking Chrome OS seriously, and Google is even shipping devices for some reasons”.
A year ago, Google’s co-founder, Sergey Brin, had already told that he liked to merge both projects (Chrome OS and Android) together, which would allow Google to focus on one single project. But Google has lately advocated Chrome OS, as ideal for business, due to lightweight requirements, tight security and constant updates.
However after this commentary from Buchheit, Google hasn’t responded yet.
