YouTube, the Google-owned social media website announced on Monday that it streams 4 billion videos every single day.

The search engine giant, Google, acquired YouTube in 2006 for $1.65 billion. From there on, YouTube has become one of the important sources of revenue for Google in addition to its Internet search business.

YouTube on Monday reported that it is streaming 4 billion online videos every day. It also said that 60 hours of videos are uploaded to the site every single minute. These statistics show a 25% increase over the past eight months.

Four billion views is “the equivalent of more than half the world’s population watching a video every day, the same number as there are US $1 bills in circulation, the same number of years since there was water on Mars…,“ the company wrote in a blog post on Monday.

Regarding the reason behind the growth of activity, Reuters, the news agency in New York City, pointed out, “Parent company Google is pushing the video-sharing service beyond personal computer, with versions of the site now compatible with smartphones and televisions. The company also has been making an effort to get more professional-grade content on the site.”
