Pinterest is the Third Most Popular Social Network
According to a recent report released by Experian, a global information services group, Pinterest is the third most popular social network in the United states following Facebook and Twitter.
Pinterest is an online pinboard-style social photo sharing website. It allows users to ‘pin’ images, videos and other objects to their virtual pinboard.
Since its launch in March 2010, Pinterest has reached many new heights. In December 2011, the site was ranked at the 10th position in the list of top 10 social networks. In the next month, the company was selected as the best new startup of 2011 by TechCrunch. In January 2012, comScore reported that the site had 11.7 million unique visitors which was a breakthrough.
The recent Experian report says that Pinterest’s traffic grew by over 50% between the months of January and February this year. The site also had the highest number of visitors (17.8 million unique visitors according to comScore) in February this year compared to other social networking sites like Tumblr, LinkedIn and Google+. Users spend an average of 89 minutes per month on the site. These factors might have made Pinterest jump up to the 3rd position.
The website focuses on a variety of users. Businesses are using Pinterest to connect with customers and are also seeing a great increase in revenues. The strong visual appeal of the site can really attract a wide group of people all over the world.
