comScore, a leader in measuring the digital world has recently released a report ranking the top 50 Web properties in the United States for February 2012. The data was collected from the comScore Media Metrix service that showed some of the trends in Web traffic.

Google, Microsoft and Yahoo hold the top three places. Google had 186.6 million visitors to its various sites and was ranked as the number 1 property in February 2012. Microsoft holds the 2nd position with 174.4 million visitors and Yahoo claimed the 3rd spot with 173.5 million visitors to its site. Facebook secured the 4th place with 158.7 million visitors. Twitter was ranked in the 25th place with 38.4 million visitors.

comScore also reported that MySpace, which was in the 50th position in January 2012, had jumped up 8 spots to reach the 42nd position in the ranking list with 25.4 million visitors. The photo bookmarking site, Pinterest, had the third largest percentage gain in unique visitors and reached the 91st position in the ranking. The number of visitors of Pinterest was more than 17.8 million showing an increase of 52% from January 2012 to last month, to more than 17.8 million.

There was also an increase in the Web traffic to certain sites. The overall traffic to tax related websites grew by 48%. The traffic of the IRS website grew by 54% from January to February. Traffic to flower and gift sites also increased by 28% while traffic of e-card services grew by 13%.
