Microsoft revealed in a blog post that it is now rolling out updates for Windows 8 built-in apps. As Windows 8 utilities are to be unveiled by October 26, it is good news that the app updates are available 3 weeks earlier.

The software giant has listed out the additions and updates that Windows 8 built-in apps will have. Skydrive, mail, messaging, photos, maps, news, travel, weather, and more will get new features and performance and reliability improvements. Some of the app updates will begin rolling out from tomorrow while others will come out over the next few weeks. Users can click on the app update link of the Windows Store to check for updates. The Bing app is the first of the updates that will be available tomorrow. It will be super easy for those who have already installed Windows 8 RTM, to get the updates.

Bing, will now feature richer search results for local content and images, with a new zooming tool to see related queries. The Mail app will include a conversation view of the inbox, and the Photos app will support photo cropping and rotation, auto-curated slideshows etc. The Maps app will include a bird’s eye view function, some 3,000 indoor venue maps, driving direction hints, improved navigation, layout and integration with Microsoft’s own Bing and Travel apps.

“We’re super excited to be approaching general availability (GA) of Windows 8 and Windows RT. With thousands of new apps in the Store, there are a lot to choose from and tens of thousands of developers have been very busy around the world creating new apps. Across Microsoft we’ve been busy since August adding new features and improving the apps that come with Windows and will be updating these apps before GA. We’ll introduce new features, improve performance, and increase reliability,” said Steven Sinofsky, president of the company’s Windows group in the MSDN blog post.
