Tobii Launches an Eye-Tracking Accessory for Windows 8

Eye-tracking has been the most viable technology for the past few years. Tobii Technology is a Swedish company which manufactures eye control and eye tracking products. The company will be displaying its eye tracker, named REX, next week at the CES (Consumer Electronics Association) for 2013. The REX is a tiny strip that can be attached below the monitor of both desktops and laptops, and it plugs into a USB port. The device works with a special software called Tobii Gaze that tracks exactly what people are looking at on the screen, letting them do things with just a glance.

Eye tracking will be a big part of human-machine interaction in the future — at least as Tobii sees it, reports Mashable. Tobii has clearly mentioned that this new technology will work with (and not instead of) a mouse and keyboard.

The cost of the final product is not yet known. At present REX is available to developers for $995. Tobii says that it will manufacture 5,000 REX peripherals for consumer purchase.
